The county council election has seen the Conservative Party retain overall control for the fourth consecutive election since taking power in 1997 from a Labour/Lib Dem Coalition.
The largest opposition party continued to be the Liberal Democrats, despite a net loss of seven seats and actually coming third in the popular vote. Interestingly the Conservatives only lost three seats to UKIP. The Labour Party gained four seats including two previous strongholds which had been lost in 2009.
The Conservatives on the County have pledged to maintain services whilst providing a balanced budget.
