On Tuesday 14 March, Sir Julian Lewis MP, accompanied by Lady Lewis, attended Buckingham Palace for his investiture. Sir Julian was honoured for political and public service, after serving as the Member of Parliament of New Forest East for 25 years. He is unique in that he is the only person who has served as both the Chairman of the Defence Select Committee, as well as the Intelligence and Security Committee.
Upon learning of the news, in the New Year's Honours, Sir Julian modestly said, "Today's recognition of that work is as generous as it is encouraging."
Chairman of New Forest East Conservatives, James Hartley-Binns, said, "Our many congratulations go to Sir Julian upon this superb achievement: we have always known his worth, and have been grateful to have him as our most senior elected representative - so it is fitting that this has now been acknowledged from the very top!"
Sir Julian, who received the Association's Award for Outstanding Commitment at our last AGM, was also re-adopted as the Conservative Candidate for the next General Election - whenever that may be!
